Old Barn, Felpham closed down [UPDATED: since reopened under new management]

UPDATE: The Old Barn reopened under new management in mid-2013, and is no longer a “problem pub”. We’ve visited on various occasions and found a friendly pub with good beer.

The text below dates from January 2013, and is out of date. It is included here for reference.

The Old Barn, Felpham, has had its licence revoked at a licensing committee hearing on January 18, following evidence of drug activity, serving alcohol to minors, and other crime and disorder.

Anyone wanting to reopen the Old Barn as a pub would need to apply for a new licence; given there are other pubs in the area, it seems unlikely that the council will grant one.

Of course, this will also stop Tesco and the like from marching in and turning it into Yet Another Supermarketâ„¢, unless they don’t want to sell alcohol. So a change of use to residential seems a likely outcome here, much as we’d like to see the pub reopened.

UPDATE: The Old Barn may be reopening after all.
