Social, starting at the Oystercatcher, Climping, at 8:45. Then on to the Black Horse, Climping, probably finishing at the Nelson, Littlehampton.

(Edit: a previous version of this diary entry had the probably finish at the Wilkes Head in Eastergate, but the Nelson has been suggested instead.)

Wilkes Head is Sussex Pub of the Year

After the Wilkes Head in Eastergate won Western Sussex Pub of the Year, it went forward to the all-Sussex stage of the competition. Against strong competition (the Sportsman in Amberley, the Swan in Crawley, the Brewers Arms in Lewes, and the Robin Hood in Icklesham) it was voted a clear winner.

The Wilkes is now up against the Surrey Oaks in Newdigate for the Surrey/Sussex title.

Congratulations to Trevor and his staff!

Beer Festival at the Eastgate, Chichester

The Eastgate in Chichester is having a beer festival from Thursday, July 12 (that’s today!) to Sunday, July 15. All beers will be £3 a pint (not sure if this includes the regular ones on the bar as well, though).

There will be a rock/blues band on Friday night, and a jazz band on Saturday night. There’s also a barbecue every night between 6 and 9pm — hopefully the weather won’t disrupt that!

The beer list includes beers from Oakham, Harviestoun, Blue Monkey, Kelham Island, Dark Star, Ballards and Thornbridge (Jaipur, no less…)
